继服务器处理器WoodCrest及桌面处理器Conroe陆续面市后,新一代Core微架构移动处理器Merom亦正式登场,虽然Intel声称全新Core微架构整合Mobile架构的省电高效率及上代桌面Netburst的功能,并为多核心应用作出优化,但Core微架构却很难找到半点Netburst的影子,由于其设计接近90%是基于Mobile架构的Yonah而作出改良,仅保留Netburst架构的Prefectching,英特尔此举明显希望为上代Netburst的失误给予完美的下台阶。

依据 Intel 2007 年 NB 平台产品规划蓝图, Socket P 版本 Merom 处理器将与下代 Santa Rosa 平台同时发布,预计日期为 2007 年 4 月。
● Merom顶级型号 -- Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 工程样本
图上为顶级型号 Core 2 Duo T7600 处理器工程样本, OEM Code 为 LF 80537G F 0534M ,频率 2.33G Hz( 倍频 14x) 、拥有 4M B L2 Cache 、外频为 667M Hz FSB ,并采用 65 奈米制程, TDP 功耗表现为 34W ,相比上代 Yonah 处理器的 31W 略高,不过,以 Merom 内含 2.91 亿个晶体管对比 Yonah 只有 1.51 亿个, Merom 的省电设计着实令人惊讶。
Core 2 Duo T7600 支持 Intel Virtual Technology 虚拟技术、 Execute Disable Bit 防护功能、 Enchanced Intel SpeedStep Technology 省电技术及 Yonah 所欠缺的 Intel EM64T64 位处理能力。
由于自 Yonah 时代开始,移动平台便需要达至 VRM 11 供电模块支持,因此,现有的 Yonah 移动计算机及 MoDT 主机板,只要升级 BIOS 便能过渡至 Merom 处理器。

● Intel︰别被TDP数字迷惑 !?
虽然 Intle Core 2 Duo T7600 晶体管数目对比 Core Duo T2700 上升近 1 倍,但其功耗表现相约令人满意,主要原因归功于其 Intelligent Power Capability 技术, 加入了细微的逻辑控制机制,能独立开关各运算单元,只有需要时才会被开启,避免闲置时出现不必要的功耗浪费,称为 Sleep Transistors 技术。
另把核心各个 Buses 及 Array 采用独立控制其 VCC 电压,部份被闲置时会被运作于低功耗模式中,在电池模式中并进入完全负荷状态下,明显地 Merom 的功耗将比 Yonah 较高,因此不少消费者担心 Merom 的电池续航力是否会大幅下降。
而据 Intel 官方回复指出,由于 Merom 的执行效率比 Yonah 高,因此执行的工作将会比 Yonah 提早完成,并迅速回复至较省电的闲置状态,因此正常使用下,两双的平均功耗均在 1.1W 以下,在实际应用上其电池续航力相距不远。

由于Core 2 Duo T7600进一步提升ALU架构,并提升内存读取技术,因此游戏测试性能对比Core Duo T2600有明显的提升。
● 后记︰
根据市调机构 Gartner 2006 年 5 月的全球 PC 出货量预估报告指出, 2001 年时桌面计算机与移动计算机比例为 8 : 2 ,但近年来移动计算机已逐渐普及,两者比例已缩短为 7 : 3 情势,预计 2008 年将会达至 6 : 4 的惊人数字,因此处理器双雄均积极为下一个主战场 -- 移动计算机市场全力备战。
事实上,全新 Merom 处理器除继承 Yonah 的优良设计外,性能也更上一层楼,同时功耗表现亦维持一贯高水平,可望进一步扩大市场优势,成为压制 AMD Turion X2 、捍卫市占的最佳利器。
值得关注的是,由于 Napa Refresh 平台与 2007 年第二季将接棒的 Santa Rosa 平台脚位并不兼容,未来 2 平台转换是否顺畅,成为各大厂商备货的重大考虑关键,据 NB 厂商指出,倘若 Intel 规划失败导致库存满手,恐让 AMD 抓住见缝插针的难得时机。
